Boston Night to Combat Climate Change

The night is Boston’s premier 2009 fundraising event showcasing New England’s leaders in the fight against global climate change. All proceeds from the event will go to organizations working to combat global climate change. Hosted by Worthy Causes, Inc. at the Cambridge Royal Sonesta, the Boston Night to Combat Climate Change event will feature big name speakers, networking opportunities, a silent auction, dancing, entertainment, and fine food and drink.

The event will raise money for the Natural Resources Defense Council (“NRDC”) (www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/) and Oxfam America (www.oxfam.org/en/climatechange), organizations which are focusing on the environmental and humanitarian impacts of climate change.  Worthy Causes, Inc. (http://www.worthycausesinc.org) is committed to educating and enlightening people about issues of vital concern in the world and highlighting and supporting organizations that are working on these issues in creative, unique and effective ways.

Climate change is perhaps the most pressing global issue of our time and Natural Resources Defense Council and Oxfam are undertaking critical work both nationally and internationally to ensure that the emission of greenhouse gases is stabilized and then dramatically cut.  The environmental and humanitarian impacts of climate change that are already occurring and these organizations are working to mitigate these impacts.

The Natural Resources Defense Council works to protect wildlife and wild places and to ensure a healthy environment for all life on earth. NRDC works to foster the fundamental right of all people to have a voice in decisions that affect their environment. NRDC seeks to break down the pattern of disproportionate environmental burdens borne by people of color and others who face social or economic inequities. Ultimately, NRDC strives to help create a new way of life for humankind, one that can be sustained indefinitely without fouling or depleting the resources that support all life on Earth.

NRDC is working on the international, national and local level to work to curb the emissions of green house gases, to understand the impacts of climate change and to foster adaptation strategies. With a staff of lawyers, scientists and policy advisors, NRDC is undertaking a comprehensive and coordinated campaign to focus attention on climate change and develop solutions. NRCD is working to create the means for transitioning to a clean energy economy without sacrificing improvements in our standard of living. Promoting comprehensive climate legislation that would cap greenhouse gas emissions while spurring a surge in clean energy investments.

Oxfam America is working together with over 3,000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice. Oxfam America works on the scene, helping people gain the hope, skills, and direction to create a new future. Additionally, Oxfam America is also active in the global arena, addressing social injustice through advocacy, public education, and emergency assistance programs. When disaster strikes around the world, Oxfam America and its partners move quickly to provide life-saving assistance to those in need. Once the immediate danger has passed, Oxfam America works to rebuild lives and reduce the risk of future disasters.

Climate change is already affecting the world’s most vulnerable populations. Oxfam America is undertaking a campaign to address the disproportionate impacts of global warming on poor people by creating equitable solutions to the crisis. Oxfam is working to ensure that emissions of greenhouse gases are cut dramatically. Oxfam America is also working to develop international programs to provide the financial assistance to ensure that the most vulnerable communities can adapt to the consequences of climate change.

Worthy Causes, Inc. provides one-time fundraising events for other non-profit organizations which are working to address critical humanitarian, environmental or medical needs. It is Worthy Causes, Inc.’s goal to provide fundraising support where there is an emergency need or where the increased awareness and/or funding raised will materially advance the work of other non-profit organizations which are bettering the human condition. Worthy Causes, Inc. seeks to support inspiring organizations whose originality, creativity, determination, caring, dedication and/or persistence makes their work stand out and benefit from what Worthy Causes, Inc. can offer. While we expect the funding to make a significant difference, a key aspect of Worthy Causes, Inc.’s work is to bring awareness to the chosen cause—getting hundreds or thousands of people aware and involved. We will work with the chosen non-profit organizations to mobilize people and focus attention on the causes. Worthy Causes, Inc. seeks to recognize a chosen few of the myriad of amazing nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to create a world we all want to live in, and support them in that work!
